Water supply system

Water supply system

Application: Water supply system
Purpose: Maintain water supply in case of network failure
Standby power solutions: 2 x 2100 kVA and 1 x 900kVA

A need to guarantee the water supply in all situations

The project was initiated by Vestfold Vann IKS based on the need for the waterworks to be able to maintain water supply to its 160,000 inhabitants in case of network failure. Eidsfoss water treatment plant, owned by Vestfold Vann IKS, is responsible for ensuring water supply to Vestfold Water’s owner municipalities. To further increase security of supply and because process optimizations were needed, it was decided to expand the plant with a larger pump basement and new building for standby power.

Standby power solutions

Satema won the tender for the delivery of the standby power generators for this project. The delivery consisted of 2 pieces 2100 kVA units with mounted motorized circuit breaker and distribution boards, plus 1 pc. 900 kVA generator.

The Satema project group was involved early on in the process of recommending type of generator, through installation and quality assurance. Furthermore, a service agreement was entered into with Satema’s own service department based in Oslo. This ensures maintenance of the plant with an annual check and exchange of oil, filters and other wear parts if required.

The T2100 has a powerful Mitsubishi V16 engine of 65L volume and together with a direct-coupled LeroySomer LSA generator that delivers 690V. The APM802 11 ” Graphic Display Control System provides a good overview of the system with all electrical values.

The two T2100 generators have automatic synchronization, so they can be operated in parallel if needed. Together with a tank reserve, this ensures safe operation for up to several days in the event of a potential prolonged down time in case of network failure. The 900kVA KD900-F unit was installed at the raw water station, where the water comes in from the source, before pumping on to the water treatment plant.

The importance of backup power solutions for water supply systems

Every year, Vestfold Water produces and distributes around 24 million cubic meters of water. With this amount of water, it goes without saying that the importance of maintaining the water supply is excessive. This is now ensured with Satema’s delivery, which allows the water pumps and water supply to continue in the event of a power outage. With a new building for power solution, Satema was given the opportunity to participate in designing technical rooms from the beginning, which in turn gives optimum operating conditions further.
